An excerpt from High Adventure: Tales Of Canadian Rock & Roll Survival:
How is it possible that a country boy from the tiny town of Chester Basin, Nova Scotia could end up: fronting his own band on television at sixteen; turning down a recording contract at seventeen; having a biker gang put out a contract on him at twenty; having his image on every 7-up can in the country at twenty-two; taking one of the world's foremost guitarists for a short fast drive in an Italian supercar that belonged to a notorious gangster; turning down an opportunity to record and tour with an American superstar, as well as turning down the vintage Rolls Royce that was part of the offer; signing one of the most lucrative recording contracts ever offered by a major U.S. label only to end up with a truly awful album; on stage with Stevie Wonder and the Jackson Five; and having to turn down a pub crawl with John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd on the night before the Canadian opening of “the Blues Brothers” movie.
As the Grateful Dead famously observed, “What a long strange trip it's been”! But it all really happened and I have no need to embellish or exaggerate. And, in the end, I finally found my dream band and recorded two truly worthwhile near-perfect albums only to crash and burn through poor management and outrageous misfortune. But I can honestly say I had the time of my life and have very few regrets."
